This transformation,
however, did not happen overnight. I made a lifestyle change, not a change in
diet or pills. I was very patient, continuing to exercise, even when there were
worrisome plateaus when I didn’t lose weight. I even gained back a few pounds
from time to time. It took about seven months for me to lose 45 pounds, going
from a 36 inch waist to a 30. In comparison to fad diet claims, this must seem
like a horribly slow process. All I can say is - what’s the hurry? It took me
over ten years to get in poor condition. What are six or seven months to take it
off? Let’s not forget, I was and am still having fun with my kids. It has been
a great family experience and will continue to be. Since I have a one year old,
a four year old, and an eight year old, I can see our family dynamics continuing
to change. In a few years my oldest will be too big for me to lift while my
youngest will be able to participate in exercises that he is unable to today.
I’ll have to come up with new ways to include all the kids. Is anybody ready
for DADsercise II?
Your situation will be
different than mine no doubt. Customize an exercise plan that works best for
you. Make it part of your daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly routine. Throw
the kids into the mix and make some memories!
Have fun! Really!
