Pedro
Nazdar lie in bed thinking,
thinking about football tryouts. They
were this morning at 10:00 am. It was
now 8:10. He’d lived here about 11
months, so he had just missed try-outs last year. Two years ago he was a running back, but he
had learned he was better at catching than running. And he as so fast!
“Pedro! Time to get up!” called his mother.
“Coming Mom!” Pedro called
back. Pedro got dressed and hurried downstairs
for breakfast. Pedro left home at about
9:30. When he got there, someone asked
him his name, his weight, and what position he was trying out for. Pedro chose wide receiver-safety as his
position. For try-outs, the first thing
he had to do was run the 40 yard dash.
He ran it in 3.99 seconds. The
coach working with the wide receivers was so surprised; he jumped a foot in the
air. Next they did drills catching the
ball. Pedro did pretty good. After try-outs
were over, the team’s head coach told them the roster would be out tomorrow.
The next day Pedro was up so early his mom was still
asleep! He left at 7:00 and road his
bike very, very fast and was the first one there. He looked everywhere on the roster and he
found his name! He was 4th
wide receiver. 4th wide
receiver isn’t always in, but in this league he was in most of the time! He looked for someone else and his name was
Manny Simens.
He had tried out for running back.
He was first team! Pedro met Manny
on the way home and gave him the good news.
Then they rode home together.
“Well,
did you make the team?” his mom asked.
“Yes!”
Pedro yelled. “I’m 4th wide
receiver!”
“Great!”
answered his mom.
“I
picked up a schedule too,” said Pedro “And our first game is . . . Tomorrow!”
